Changing Networks From 3g to 2g
NEITHER AVAILABLE YET !Download PDF Version Large Pring Edition: Download PDF Version

This guide is only advisable for 3 UK customers who have a very poor 3G signal and thus have call connection issues. It is against 3's terms and conditions to permantly use the GSM network, so only do this in poor signal areas and switch back to the Dual option when you know you can get a strong 3G signal.

If you are having very bad problems consider going with a network that allows full use of the GSM network (i.e. any other network than 3).

I can take no responsibility for this software breaking your phone, do it at your own risk

General Instructions

  1. Visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fox_6630/
  2. You may need to login using a yahoo ID and confirm you are over 18 (don't know why you have to over 18)
  3. Once logged in select the Files link on the left hand side ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fox_6630/files )
  4. Download the file at the bottom of the list called "OperatorFtdwk39v7.sis"
  5. Install the file onto your Nokia 6630/6680 handset (see manual on how to transfer and install software from PC -> Phone)
  6. Go to the Menu on your handset, Scroll to the bottom of the list and open the application called "Test" - has a bug icon.
  7. Press Up twice, you should get to a page titled like: Force protocol between
    GSM and WCDMA

    0-dual
    1-GSM
    2-WCDMA
    0
  8. Select "Options" -> "Execute". You will get a box saying "Enter Input". Input 1 and select OK
  9. Your phone should restart now and your phone will permantly get a GSM signal from 3.

To return the phone to a Dual status, so that it will lock on to a 3G signal if available or GSM if 3G is not available do the following:
  1. Either follow the above procedure but when you get to step 8 enter "0" in the "Enter Input Box", or
  2. Go to the Main Menu and select "Tools" -> "Settings" -> "Network Settings" -> "Network Mode". Select Dual Mode and the phone should restart.
